Intrinsic safety — what it means in practice

The RW65_EX_II is certified under the intrinsic safety protection concept (Ex ia) — the highest level, which tolerates two simultaneous faults without losing ignition safety. The device itself generates no ignitable energy internally.

At the boundary of an ATEX zone, a separation stage on the safe side is always mandatory, even when the end device is intrinsically safe. Three compatible options: Zener barrier (passive, low cost, requires IS earth), intrinsically safe isolating signal converter (active, galvanically isolated, easier to wire), intrinsically safe power supply (combines supply and isolation).

Based on our market research (as of July 2026), the RW65_EX_II is the only locally readable differential pressure gauge that combines an ATEX Category 1 approval (Zones 0/20, Ex ia) with a native measuring range from 40 Pa — decisive for cleanroom pressure cascades in the Ex zone, for example in pharma with solvent processes. Add drift-free mechanical measurement: every recalibration in the Ex zone means plant downtime and validation effort — the drift-free principle enables significantly extended intervals and reduces this effort considerably.
